Avondale Meadows offers residents the excitement of downtown amenities with the conveniences of modern living. Upon completion, this unique and diverse 100-acre community will add 800 new multi-family/mixed income units. This new housing will include apartments, townhomes and single-family homes as well as 150 affordable housing options for seniors.

An expansive new retail area will include a grocery store so that fresh food and grocery options are available to the residents of Avondale Meadows. The revitalization will create new construction jobs and permanent jobs in the community center and retail areas.
The Avondale Meadows Master Plan represents a holistic and comprehensive strategy for the entire area. The overall plan identifies critical properties needed for the revitalization to succeed, while crafting an overall urban design framework and infrastructure improvement package necessary to stimulate new development activity.
The area is well positioned for this revitalization and is large enough that it will serve as an engine to re-invigorate the surrounding areas. It is fully expected that this revitalization will create a neighborhood that will be sustainable for decades to come. By locating high quality mixed-income housing in close proximity to schools, open green space, new retail, and bus and future transit routes, the residents will have better access to jobs and community amenities.

The human development plan is just as important as the real estate development plan. With new job training programs, the relocation of social and human services to the area, and the long-term funding of the Meadows Community Foundation, people, not just buildings, will be the focus of the initiative. Our goal is to ensure the continued viability of the improvements made to this area in the last few years, as well as those contemplated in the master plan to enhance the quality of life in the community, and promote a much brighter future for its residents and neighbors.
The City of Indianapolis will also benefit from this revitalization in many ways – from better housing options for low, moderate and middle income residents, hundreds of construction jobs and permanent jobs, improved public safety, cutting-edge sustainable development and construction, and additional permanent property tax revenue. Our vision for the area is to make residents feel proud to call Avondale Meadows “home” and who feel safe living here.
